Clear spinal fluid

Fri, Jan 18th, 2008 7:57pm by dkulp

Laura’s lumbar puncture went fine. The neurologist showed us that the fluid was clear like water and so unlikely to contain tumor cells. We’ll know for sure next week.
Meanwhile, when the neurologist heard the news that Laura’s heart function had weakened due to chemo, he suggested that the headaches and unsteadiness might be due to reduced heart function. That explanation would be in some sense the simplest and most appealing. Since Laura won’t be taking the chemo drug with the cardiac toxicity anymore, it’s possible that her heart will improve and her headaches will subside.

A weakened HEART? LAURA? I’m not buying it– better tell these quacks to re-calibrate their machines, ’cause that woman’s got a heart as big as all outdoors! 😉 Seriously, it’s great to hear that the doctors all seem to be addressing your concerns more quickly and directly. More importantly, it really sounds like the symptom management efforts are making some progress. I’m really hoping the headaches do indeed leave with the chemo, because I’m guessing those must be truly awful. One more stupid thought: how many times did you two slip into a Nigel Tufnel accent whilst discussing/preparing for/getting the spinal tap? C’mon now… be honest. I sure would have. 😉
Much love to both of you, and hang in there!
